Hello readers. Apologies for the lack of posts this week – I visited my parents in Arizona this past weekend, and I have WhiskyFest San Francisco coming up on Friday. Busy week! This will be my first-ever whisky festival, and I can’t wait. I avoided the $500 hotel rooms by planning to stay with some friends in Noe Valley. That leaves only one challenge: Navigating SF public transit after tasting whisky for three hours!
David Driscoll over at K&L has some good advice that I plan to follow: Learn to Spit! If I were to try to swallow every dram of whisky offered to my at the event, I’d be sure to lose consciousness long before sampling everything on my “must try” list. I’m also hoping to see a few recent acquaintances in the whisky world, and to meet John Hansell, among others. I got a stack of Scotch Noob business cards printed up, so I intend to annoy every booth rep with my card. 🙂
Alas, it occurred to me too late that I should have a shirt made up with my logo. Perhaps next year.
Lastly, I’ve resolved not to attempt to record full tasting notes for anything at the show. It takes a good 10-15 minutes with a dram to capture enough information for a blog post, and I won’t be able to do enough of them to justify the ticket price. Instead, I’ll take notes about whiskies to follow-up on, and I’ll write up my (blurry, no doubt) festival experience in a post next week.
Going to WhiskyFest San Francisco? Leave a comment!
Couldn’t go (being in Scotland), but I’m excited to read your impressions (however blurry) when you get around to posting next week. I bet it was an awesome time!
