Well, after four and a half years of using the same theme that I launched with, I’ve finally entered the modern era. I present: The New Scotch Noob dot com! It really shouldn’t look too different, as I wanted to keep my basic look-and-feel, but the site has a lot more bells and whistles, and is (finally) mobile device friendly! Pull up scotchnoob.com on your mobile phone or tablet and you should have a much better experience than before.
Of course, there’s bound to be some bugs (there always are when I have to do stuff like theme development myself!), so I’d appreciate a comment or a Contact Form Submission if you notice an issue. Please include the device/browser/operating system that you’re using to help me track down the problem. Thanks!
A few highlights of the new theme:
Responsive Design
Resize your browser down to see what I mean. This is what allows it to work on mobile devices/tablets.
Review Filtering
A brand-new Review filtering system! I’ve had a log of requests for this over the years, so now you can narrow down the list of reviews by many criteria, including (approximate) score. If you have any suggestions for more filter criteria, let me know and I’ll try to figure out if it’s possible.
CloudFlare
The site is now DNS-routed through CloudFlare.com, which means it should arrive faster and should be (hopefully) more reliable and better able to handle denial-of-service attacks.
New Sponsors
I have a few new sponsors! Don’t worry, there won’t be any additional ad spaces to distract you from my resonating words of wisdom.
Suggested Posts
At the bottom of each full-length review or article is now a slider with suggested further reading. This is based on tags, which means it will get better over time as I (cough) fix the tags.
Maintenance
I’m using a child theme now, which means I can seamlessly update the theme over time as the base theme releases updates. That should mean it won’t be another 4.5 years before I add more features.
Thanks for reading. Cheers!
Page number buttons on reviews are broken. They link to //scotchnoob.com/reviews/&pagenum=2 , etc., when they should link to //scotchnoob.com/reviews/?pagenum=2 etc.
Also I really liked have all the reviews on one page instead of having 6 separate pages. It was a lot easier to search through your reviews quickly.
Nice to see the update though!
Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for the note – I’ve fixed the page numbers and added a “# of posts per page” drop-down. It defaults to 40, but you can change it to “All”.
Cheers!
I like the new look, good taste my friend!
I’d like to suggest that you add Prev/Next buttons to these posts, since the main page only offers stubs.
Hi Alan, good suggestion. I’ll look into that. Thanks!
Done! Thanks again for the suggestion.
